Numerous types of paper making chemical additives are frequently used in the paper industry. These additives are diverse in variety and versatile in application, with their functions primarily manifested in the following aspects:
Enhancing Production Efficiency
To accelerate wet-end dewatering in paper machines and expedite moisture evaporation from the dryer section, filter aids can be added to boost production efficiency. To ensure uniform pulp dyeing and secure color fixation, mordants and dispersants can be incorporated. When applying rosin sizing, adding synergists enhances sizing effectiveness. Furthermore, since recycled waste paper contains ink and other substances, waste paper deinking agents can be added to produce pure pulp.
Enhancing performance to impart special properties to paper
For instance, cement bag paper requires high strength and good air permeability, so the degree of refining should not be too high during pulping. To improve paper strength, dry strength agents are often added. Napkins and tissues need to be as soft as cotton and resist linting during wiping, so paper softeners are added.
Reduce waste and conserve raw materials
For example, adding retention aids and flocculants to pulp can improve the retention rate of fillers and fine fibers, thereby reducing losses, conserving raw materials, and mitigating wastewater pollution.
Eliminating Production Obstacles
During summer, sludge commonly accumulates in sludge tanks, screen channels, or white water pipe systems, where it decomposes and creates production obstacles. Nowadays, various highly effective, low-toxicity, self-degrading preservatives are available that can kill bacteria and prevent decay without causing pollution. If pulp washing is not thorough and mixes with air, it can produce foam and floating pulp, which are detrimental to paper quality and operations. To eliminate the hazards of foam, defoamers and degassing agents can be used.
Improve water clarity
The use of blanket cleaners accelerates blanket washing and maintains blanket cleanliness. Adhesives are typically added to coatings to enhance coated paper quality. Incorporating dispersants reduces coating viscosity, facilitates production operations, and improves coating water resistance.
